Overview

Pharmaniaga Berhad is currently one of Malaysia’s largest listed integrated pharmaceutical company producing generic drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and nutraceuticals. With eight manufacturing plants in Malaysia and Indonesia, Pharmaniaga is capable of manufacturing the products ranging from oral solids, liquids and creams to small volume injectables (SVI).

One of the manufacturing facilities under Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn. Bhd. (PLS), specialised sterile SVI plant in Malaysia is accredited by the European Union (EU) Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) since 2013 by Infarmed, the regulatory authority of Portugal. Pharmaniaga recently invested further in more than RM 300 million on biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing to stay ahead as the leading biopharmaceutical player in the country.

Recent success in the development, manufacturing and distribution of COVID-19 vaccine via a strategic partnership with Sinovac China will be presented.

Speaker

Dr Badarulhisam Abdul Rahman, Head of Sustainability and Research and Development, Pharmaniaga Berhad, Malaysia

Dr Badarulhisam is currently the head of Sustainability and Research and Development at Pharmaniaga Berhad. He is responsible to spearhead sustainability and product development program at Pharmaniaga.

Dr Badarulhisam qualified as a biochemical engineer. He received his PhD from the Johns Hopkins University, USA and MSc and Advanced Diploma from the University College of London (University of London), UK. His area of expertise is in the fields of biochemical engineering and biotechnology. Dr. Badarulhisam developed his early career as a lecturer at the Department of Bioprocess Engineering, University Technology of Malaysia and he is still active academically.

He has served as a Professor (adjunct) at Chemical Engineering Department, University Putra Malaysia and he is also a member for the Board of Academic Advisory, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He has served as an industrial advisor to several Bioprocess Engineering Programs in major universities in Malaysia and co supervises Masters and PhD students in various aspects of biopharmaceutical plant Design, Biologics Drug Development and Process Optimizations.
