Overview

Founded 21 years ago as a spin-out from Imperial College London, Ceres is one of the world’s leading developers of solid-oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyser (SOE) technology, based in Horsham, West Sussex. Ceres’ metal-supported SteelCell® technology is unique and has numerous advantages in cost and robustness over other SOC technologies. Ceres operates a technology licensing business model and has licensed its technology to global OEMs including Bosch in Germany, Doosan in South Korea, and Weichai Power in China, all of whom are developing commercial power generation products using SteelCell® technology. In addition, an agreement has recently been signed with Shell to site a MW-scale steam electrolysis module using SteelCell® technology in Bangalore, India.

SteelCell® technology has the potential to play a significant role in the energy transition due to its fuel flexibility, with efficient operation on gaseous hydrocarbons, hydrogen and hydrogen-carrier fuels such as ammonia and methanol. The technology is also reversible allowing high-efficiency electrochemical hydrogen generation through steam electrolysis using less electricity than tradition electrolysis technologies.

During your visit you will introduced to the company and be provided with a tour to its R&D, testing and prototype manufacturing facilities.
