Overview

Having group work projects within a module/programme has many educational benefits. However, it also raises concerns regarding fairness of individual marks and student engagement. This seminar explains the IPAC methodology for assessment of group work, how it addresses these initial concerns as well as brings other educational benefits and opportunities for student development. Finally, we do a quick demonstration of the IPAC software that allows tutors to implement this practice easily and time efficiently.

Pilar Garcia-Souto, UCL

Dr Pilar Garcia-Souto is a Principal Teaching Fellow at UCL Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering Department. She has an BSc in Physics, majoring in Electronics and an MSc in Information Technologies, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Since 2007, she combined research and teaching activities. Pilar is highly engaged with improving the teaching quality and the learning experience of students, using innovative teaching practices. She does educational research and leads the IPAC Consortium, seeking to improve the students’ satisfaction and assessment fairness within group work activities. Her scientific research interests, matching her multi-disciplinary profile, include infrared technology, human thermoregulation and thermal comfort, image processing, product design and mechanical characterization of materials.
