Speakers

Professor Ir Dr Chong Mei Fong

Professor Chong spent her past 15 years of research and development specializing in water and wastewater treatment technologies. Her research covers developing novel design for bioreactor treating palm oil mill effluent, optimization on the performance of wastewater treatment plants, develop new chemicals for water treatment and other specialty chemicals.

She was awarded with various local and international awards including Commercialization Deal Award, ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women (Highly Commended) and Knowledge Exchange and Innovation Award, UK, Biotechnology Award (Highly Commended), UK. She has published more than 40 international journals, two book chapters and a book. She has been awarded with research and commercialization grants, commenced various projects in bioenergy and wastewater technologies across ASEAN countries.

She was attached to the University of Nottingham and developed her research portfolio as her first career. She is now focusing at the commercial works as the Director of Dia-Chemical Sdn Bhd, which is her second career. She would like to contribute and share her knowledge gained from her research works with the industry and hope to close the missing gaps between research and commercialization.

Dr Viknesh Andiappan

Dr Viknesh Andiappan is an assistant professor at Heriot-Watt University, Malaysia. In 2013, he obtained his MEng. (Hons.) in chemical engineering from the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. Later that year, he was the recipient of the Dean PhD Research Scholarship at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. He completed his PhD the within two and half years in 2016. In 2017, he obtained Chartered Engineer qualifications and is currently a Chartered member of IChemE. In 2019, he was shortlisted as the finalist for the IChemE Young Researcher Malaysia Awards. He now serves IChemE POPSIG as the university roadshow director.

Mr Vincent Tiang Soon Thai

Vincent Tiang graduated with the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Honours) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in August 2020. He currently works as chemical engineer in IOI Pan-Century Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd, Johor, Malaysia.

Vincent was a student member in IChemE from 2016 to 2020. He was also the director of the student committee from UKM which collaborated with POPSIG in organizing the university roadshow in UKM in February 2020. In addition, Vincent held the position as executive head - industry and professionalism in the Chemical Engineering Student Club (CHESC) UKM 2018/2019, in which his portfolio included organizing industrial visits and industrial talks.

Vincent joined the POPSIG committee in October 2020, and began his role as roadshow deputy director.
