15th December 2020

The theme is “Overcoming Challenges, Capturing Opportunities” with the focus on instilling positive perception and confidence in palm oil, unlocking hidden yields without hectarage expansion, top 50 enabling innovations and next emerging markets to drive palm oil consumption and the future of palm oil industry: price and sustainability challenges.

Our POPSIG members presented in Session 2: Unlocking hidden yields without hectarage expansion. Ir Hong Wai Onn, chair of POPSIG, presented Paper 12: Embracing Industry X in the Palm Oil Milling Industry, and Dr Robiah Yunus, professor at UPM, Paper 13: Improve Production through Deployment of Advanced Palm Oil Milling Technologies. It was good to see our POPSIG speakers complementing each other. Our thanks to them for highlighting the profile of chemical engineers in the palm oil industry.

The moderator Mr M R Chandran said, "I must say the eight speakers were top class and that made the session quite stimulating. I was very impressed with Ir Hong's presentation and his interventions. He is an accomplished presenter. I do agree that if we are to improve our milling and downstream processing, industry need to employ more chemical/process engineers."
