Overview

The webinar presents a conceptual framework for prioritisng decarbonisation investments and covers programme management approaches to executing decarbonisation initiatives. Implementation of Smart Building Technologies as a key enabler to enhanced carbon management are described.

Speakers

Marcus Morrel, Foresight & Innovation Lead/Senior Scientist, Arup

Marcus leads Arup’s Foresight team in the United Kingdom, India, Middle East and Africa and helps clients explore the implications of the many complex trends and issues shaping future change.

Marcus is passionate about helping organisations frame their understanding of the future of their business or operational context. His expertise lies in utilising a range of foresight methods to identify priorities and strategies that leverage emerging opportunities and optimise resilience in the face of uncertainty. His work is highly collaborative, as he firmly believes that multiple perspectives are essential if we are to understand the dynamics of systemic change.

With over 11 years of experience in corporate foresight, Marcus has worked across a wide range of industry sectors including transport, utilities, energy and retail. He continues to work with central government departments and city authorities on topics as diverse as the future of mobility, manufacturing, critical infrastructure, identity and terrorism.

Prior to joining Arup in 2007 Marcus ran a successful technology start-up.

Karsten Peleikis, Associate Director, Arup

Karsten stands for the view of the future and a common roadmap to get there. Collaboration in partnership characterises his projects.Karsten is an Associate Director in Arup’s Berlin Office and leads the sustainability consulting in Germany for our science, industry & technology clients. He has eighteen years of experience in the design and consultancy sector shaped his life. Karsten is a professional for advisory, sustainability, life cycle management, energy design and renewable energies, with a focus on project and business development and strategy consultancy.
The foundation of his work is the study of General Engineering and General Process Engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) at the Technical Universities of Hamburg-Harburg (Germany) and Trondheim (Norway). He is also an energy management specialist and commissioner.

During his career, he was responsible for many complex projects and multi-site performance programs. This led to successful real estates, including zero and plus-energy buildings.

Dr Isabella Gaetani, Senior Scientist, Arup

Isabella is a Senior Scientist working within the Arup Smart Buildings Team in the London office. Isabella has seven years’ experience in Energy, Sustainability and Simulation, with a background in Energy Engineering and a PhD in Building Performance Simulation. Isabella’s work focuses on unlocking the power of data to increase our understanding of human building interaction and ultimately achieve better energy and comfort performance of buildings. A building simulation specialist, Isabella is also active in the fields of digital twinning and smart enablement. Her research has been widely published in scientific journals and books, as well as presented at conferences worldwide. She is a reviewer for journals, conferences and national funds, as well as a member of IEA EBC Annex 79, focusing on Occupant-Centric Building Design and Operation.
