  • Date To 21st March 2018

Overview

All members of the group are invited to attend the AGM. Nominations to join the committee are welcomed from all members of the group.

Any member who wishes to be elected to the committee should be nominated and seconded from within the group's membership, and should be confirmed to the chair, Malcolm Wilkinson.

Please note that volunteers for the positions of chair and treasurer must be Chartered Members of IChemE. Volunteers for all committee positions must be current members of IChemE.

The meeting will be followed by the lecture "Removing Greenhouse Gases from the Air to Stabilise the Climate", delivered by Richard Darton and Aidong Yang from the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford.

Most predictions of future climate suggest that limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius this century will need technology to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere at very large scale. This is required in addition to significant decarbonation of the energy economy. Greenhouse Gas Removal (GGR) is already built into many climate models, although we have no clear idea how it can be done, nor what the wider impacts might be. This presentation will discuss the background to GGR and the issues involved, and highlight potential technologies currently the subject of research. GGR just might become a very large and important industry over the next 50 years.
