Overview

Tahuna WWTP is Dunedin's largest treatment plant and receives around 30 million litres of wastewater a day from around 80,000 residents and industry in the Greater Dunedin area. The plant had a significant upgrade which was completed in around 2013 including a new 1.1km outfall off the St Kilda coast, which replaced the former outfall at Lawyers Head.

Treatment at the plant includes a high rate activated sludge process followed by plastic media trickling filters before disinfection with ultra-violet light and then discharge through the outfall. Solids are thickened and dewatered before being incinerated at around 825˚C.

Flat well covered footwear is required – no heels allowed for plant tour.

Additional details will be provided on registration.
