Overview

SSE Generation owns and operates the 2,000MW Fiddler’s Ferry coal fired power station which is capable of co-firing biomass. It is situated on the north bank of the River Mersey between Warrington and Widnes.

SSE have made significant investment to reduce emissions at the plant to extend its life, including the development of a range of lower capital cost advanced NOx abatement technology solutions and are currently investing in a £27m trial at its 500MW unit at Fiddler's Ferry.

The visit will include a talk by a member of the operational site staff, and a tour of the site including visits to the flue gas desulphurisation plant, the coal plant and the control room.

Attendees will not be permitted to enter operational areas due to enhanced health and safety protocols.
