Overview

An evening event with technical presentation by Process Engineer from East One-Zero-One  Sdn. Bhd. and time for networking over refreshments.

This event is free and open to all. Bring along your colleagues and introduce them to the Oil & Natural Gas Special Interest Group (SONG) and to IChemE.

Topic

Process simulation (steady state and dynamic) is a tool that supports engineering decision in process design (FEED and Detailed Design) and operation (start-up, optimization and  troubleshooting). With the adequate methodology, a validated simulation model can be utilized to minimize operability, controllability-, safety- and cost-related unknowns for the oil & gas industry, in both the upstream and downstream segment. Apart from the simulation model itself, good modelling techniques and precise interpretation of the simulation results is another important aspect that needs to be considered to get the best out of process simulation.

With the above in mind, this months evening talk will be an informative sharing session disclosing the ‘process simulation best practices’ and the techniques in utilizing process simulation as a process engineering tool instead as an oracle. This topic will provide a preliminary overview of the fundamental principles to bear in mind when running a simulation. Apart from the best practices, an advanced 3/3 engineering study on compressors emphasizing on Compressor Surge Analysis will be shared during the presentation.

This analysis will provide the audience with some valuable insights on compressor surge, the reason behind the occurrence, the issues faced and how simulation approaches and addresses this issue. A case study will be disclosed to understand the application of process simulation in minimizing the design and operation unknowns.

Speaker

Mr. Shahril Saidin, Process Engineer

Mr. Shahril Saidin is a Process Engineer of East One-Zero-One Sdn Bhd (East101), a specialty consulting company focused on providing advanced process engineering and flow assurance consultancy services to the oil and gas industry through process simulation technology.

He is a Process Engineering and Simulation Specialist with over 7 years of full-time simulation experience in process engineering and operations optimization of offshore and onshore oil and gas production, oil refinery and petrochemical facilities. He specializes in steady state and dynamic/transient analyses for design and operations namely; modelling and troubleshooting production platform operations, modelling of chemical partitioning in topside facilities, modelling of proprietary specialty chemical synthesis and purification, Sub-Surface and Surface Network Modelling for Gas Fields and blowdown analysis.

He is proficient in HYSYS, UniSim Design, VMGSim, FORGAS, Aspen Custom Modeler (ACM) and Microsoft VISIO.

Other than consultancy work, he also has experience in conducting and assisting training services provided by East101 mainly in process engineering, steady state and dynamic process simulation.

He holds an MSc. Chemical Engineering from the University of Applied Science Manheim, Germany. He is also a registered member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia.

Time

Registration from 17:30 – the event will commence at 18:00 and close at 20:00.
