Issue Number: 259

£12.00

At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake on 11 March 2011, fires originating in the waste from the disaster occurred at various locations in the Tohoku region. These fires were believed to have been caused by heat of fermentation. An investigation was conducted focused on such fires and excluding fires from other causes. Waste items that ferment were collected from fire locations and tested to determine their likelihood of spontaneous ignition due to fermentation.
