About us

With approaching 40,000 members in over 100 countries, IChemE’s membership is becoming increasingly global in nature. In 2014, more than 40% of the membership resides outside the UK and the Institution is committed to supporting its members in all parts of the globe. Three senior ambassadors have been appointed by Council to act as points of contact for IChemE’s 700 members in the US.

Opportunities for involvement are varied, and include:

  • becoming a committee member and fulfilling a leadership role in a local member group
  • acting as a mentor to those wishing to apply for professional qualifications in the US, including chartered status and Professional Process Safety Engineer
  • creating and/or joining task and finish groups that will look at strategic issues affecting the profession in the US
  • getting involved in IChemE’s governance – including technical Special Interest Groups and the Professional Formation Forum and Education and Accreditation Forum, which apply and maintain professional and educational standards

These activities offer an opportunity to develop personal skills and network with fellow professionals in industry and academe, many of whom are in senior positions. Take look at our information on volunteering.
