IChemE Malaysia Awards 2017

Categories and entry

IChemE  Global Award entries are judged using five criteria: engineering excellence, evidence of application, process safety, societal benefit and sustainability/environmental impact.

The weighting for each criterion varies for each category and is not publically available.

Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering 2017

The outstanding entry from the IChemE Global Awards, IChemE Singapore Awards and IChemE Malaysia Awards, across all categories, will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Note: This category is awarded by the Judges.

Oil and Gas Award 2017


Sponsor: Available to sponsor

Recognises the best project or process to demonstrate engineering excellence in the oil and gas sector, efficient energy use and the development of energy production methods that reduce energy intensity.

Palm Oil Industry Award 2017

Sponsor: Sime Darby

Recognises the best project implemented and demonstrates innovation, successful delivery and a technical, commercial, safety and/or environmental benefit. The project may relate to new industrial plant or to the enhancement of existing palm oil mills, refining and other related industries.

Process Safety Award 2017


Sponsor: MMI Engineering Sdn Bhd

Recognises an organisation that has an exemplary record in implementing process safety best practice and improvements to reduce major hazards and risks.

Entries may include a structured programme – such as HAZOP, PHR, PSM – or technology to minimise risk in operating practices and human factors..

Sustainability Award 2017 (Equivalent to Sustainable Technology Award 2016)

Recognises the project, process or product that best demonstrates engineering excellence in waste reduction, recycling, reuse or the lengthening of product lifecycles.

Training and Development Award 2017


Sponsor: Available to sponsor

Recognises the team or organisation that best demonstrates excellence in training, development of staff or education of a wider community. 

Entries should demonstrate how a skills/knowledge gap has been addressed, how a training programme has had a positive impact on business performance and/or how public perception of chemical engineering has been improved..

Young Industralist Award 2017 (Equivalent to Young Chemical Engineer in Industry Award 2016)

Recognises the individual who best demonstrates their achievements and tangible application of chemical, biochemical or process engineering skills to address important economic, environmental or social issues.

All entrants must have been born on or after 1 January 1987.

Young Researcher Award 2017 (Equivalent to Young Chemical Engineer in Research Award 2016)

Sponsor: Dato' Muhtar Hashim CEng, FIChemE

Recognises the individual who best demonstrates the impact of their research in helping to address important economic, environmental or social issues.

All entrants must have been born on or after 1 January 1987.
