National Chemical Engineering Symposium, Malaysia

MIRI: More than 250 participants have registered for the National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES 2015) to be held at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) from 4 December to 6 December 2015.

The event is jointly run by Curtin Sarawak’s Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Student Chapter and the university’s Department of Chemical Engineering and IChemE Malaysia.

According to Mervyn Ling, head of registration for NACES 2015, the symposium has received overwhelming response from both domestic and international undergraduate chemical engineers.

Universities that will be represented include Institut Teknologi Bandung, National University of Singapore, Monash University Malaysia, University of Nottingham Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Univerisiti Malaysia Sabah, Univerisiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pasir Gudang, UiTM Pulau Pinang, UiTM Shah Alam, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Organising chairperson of NACES 2015, who is also president of Curtin Sarawak IChemE Student Chapter, Low Yi Jin said the number of participants had exceeded expectation and she would be looking forward to a very engaging event, which would also be attended by more than 50 industrial engineers, researchers, and educators.

With the theme ‘Tug of War: Fossil Fuels against Renewables’, NACES 2015 will incorporate seven major technical sessions – Technical Essay Writing, Technical Case Study, Technical PowerPoint Presentation, Technical Debate Competition, Technical Video Presentation, Chemical Engineering Challenge, and Process Plant Design.

The symposium will serve as a platform for chemical engineering undergraduates to demonstrate their creative thinking, effective communication, and technical knowledge in generating innovative solutions to global development issues and challenges.

NACES 2015 is sponsored by Sarawak Energy Bhd and Top Glove Foundation, and is supported by Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, Sarawak Convention Bureau, and IChemE Malaysia.
