IChemE journal sees a 40% increase in Impact Factor

Process Safety and Environmental Protection (PSEP)

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has announced that Process Safety and Environmental Protection (PSEP) now has the highest Impact Factor ever held by an IChemE journal. PSEP, published in partnership with Elsevier, saw the figure increase by 40% - going from 2.078 to 2.905.

The 2016 Impact Factor results are calculated by Thomson Reuters and published by Clarivate Analytics. The latest figures have also seen PSEP shoot up in the rankings, and it is now 31st out of 134 peer-reviewed chemical engineering journals – a significant jump from 47th in 2015.

The journal also jumped up in Citation Score, from 2.50 to 3.00, and was cited 1031 times in 2016.

PSEP Environment Editor-in-Chief, Professor Adisa Azapagic commented:

“This is a great achievement for the journal and we are very grateful to everyone who has contributed to its success. The journal has been going from strength to strength, with the number of papers submitted almost doubling over the past two years, attracting authors from all over the world and allowing us to select high-impact publications.”

PSEP Safety Editor-in-Chief, Professor David Edwards, said:

“An amazing amount of hard work has been put in by everyone associated with the Journal; from all the editors and reviewers, those at Elsevier, and IChemE. The effort they have put in to increase the journal quality, improve relevance of the content to the academic and industrial communities, and improve publication time, has borne fruit in the latest Impact Factor results.”

Chemical Engineering Research and Design (ChERD) also saw an increase, advancing from 2.525 to 2.538. ChERD sits in the top third of chemical engineering journals.

Impact Factors are calculated by Thomson Reuters and updated annually. They provide a quantitative measure of a journal in relation to its competitors, based on a ratio of the citations to a journal in the most recent year to a count of articles and reviews published in the journal in the prior two years.
