IChemE welcomes new ministers

12th May 2015

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has welcomed yesterday's Ministerial appointments: Sajid Javid MP as BIS Secretary of State with Jo Johnson MP as the Minister for Universities and Science; Amber Rudd MP as Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change supported by Andrea Leadsom MP as Minister of State; and the reappointment of Nicky Morgan MP at Education.

IChemE chief executive, Dr David Brown, said: “We will work with new Ministers, officials and parliamentarians to secure a commitment in the next spending review to continue at least current levels of investment in engineering education and research – vital if the UK’s leading position is to be maintained – and to make it easier for skilled professionals and bright international students to study and work in the UK.

“We look forward to working with ministers to ensure that decisions are supported by the strongest possible input from the engineering community. We believe that chemical engineers have a key role to play in advising the government in a variety of areas including energy policy.”

The IChemE Energy Centre was launched in March 2015. The Centre is a forum for the chemical and process engineering community to provide decision makers in the UK, and around the world, with expert advice on energy issues.
