Is IChemE Student Membership right for you?

If you are studying for a chemical, biochemical or process engineering degree (or related subject), you can become a Student Member for free and get access to industry-leading resources, technical knowledge, networking opportunities, events, and career support.

Who can apply for Student Membership?

To apply for Student Membership you should:

  1. Be studying a degree in chemical engineering or a closely-related subject (or have a firm acceptance to begin shortly), and
  2. Not have been an IChemE member previously.

How much does Student Membership cost?

Student Membership is free for undergraduates, and there is no annual subscription fee. Postgraduate students are eligible for free Affiliate or Associate membership for the length of their studies, and can apply for fees to be waived via the reduced rates section of the website.

How to apply for Student Membership

Before starting your application, please check you are eligible in the 'Who can apply for Student Membership' section.

To apply for Student Membership you must first register on our application portal.

Once you have an application portal account you will be able to apply for the Student Member grade. When applying you will need to provide:

  1. Your personal information and contact details
  2. Degree course information including start and end dates.

Studying for a postgraduate degree?

If you are studying for a postgraduate degree, such as a PhD, EngD, MPhil, or a taught Master's, in a subject related to chemical engineering, you can get free IChemE membership.

Choose the right membership type:

  • Associate Member (AMIChemE)
    If you already have a chemical engineering degree accredited by IChemE, or recognised by Engineers Europe, the Washington Accord or the Sydney Accord, you can apply to be an Associate Member.

  • Affiliate Member
    If your undergraduate degree is in a different subject or not accredited, apply to be an Affiliate Member.

Postgraduate students do not pay a membership fee, but you must apply through the Reduced Rate form to activate the free rate. Once you have applied via the reduced rate, our team will contact you about applying the free rate to your membership.
