Ken Morison awarded IChemE Council medal

Ken Morison, associate professor at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, has been awarded the prestigious IChemE Council medal. The medal was awarded to Morison at the 2015 Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineers Congress, (incorporating Chemeca) awards dinner held recently in Melbourne, Australia.

The Council medal is awarded to an individual who has given exceptional service on an IChemE special project. Morison was recognised for his dedicated work as editor-in-chief of the Food and Bioproducts Processing journal, and his significant input into journals contract review.

Morison has a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Canterbury and a PhD from Imperial College, London, UK.  He has lectured at the University of Canterbury since 1994. Prior to this, he spent eight years working in New Zealand’s dairy industry.

Morison’s research is mostly about milk processes, but more recently he has supervised research on honey processing. 

Since 2002, Morison has sat on the Editorial Board of Food and Bioproducts Processing, and has been Editor-in-Chief (Food) since 2010.  During this time, the journal’s impact factor has increased from 1.207 for 2010 to 2.474 for 2014.  While spending time the UK during 2013, Morison also assisted IChemE in the selection of a publisher for the Institution’s journals over the next seven years.
