Little solutions to big problems - 2015 Warner Prize

IChemE’s third Warner Prize will be presented to Dr Camille Petit on 23 November 2015. Petit will also deliver a presentation, ‘Little solutions to big problems’, in which she will offer some thought-provoking insight into the potential use of nanomaterials to tackle global energy challenges.
The biennial event will take place at IChemE’s London HQ in Portland Place. Petit is the third recipient of the prize, typically given to high achievers in sustainable or nuclear chemical process technology.
Currently a lecturer at Imperial College London, Petit specialises in functional nanomaterials research, and its application to address global energy challenges. Her presentation will describe some of her latest work in the field.
IChemE’s technical vice president, Astra Zeneca’s Jon-Paul Sherlock will welcome guests to the event, together with IChemE president Dr Andrew Jamieson, who will present the medal. IChemE Energy Centre board chair, and the new dean of engineering at Brunel University, UK, Professor Stef Simons, will also make a contribution.
On hearing the announcement that she was the latest Warner prize winner, Petit said: “It will be a real thrill to receive the medal. It’s a great honour to be associated with Sir Frederick Warner, a pioneer in sustainable chemical engineering. The award is particularly important to me because it also recognises the diligent work of my team and my co-workers in the field of sustainability and materials.”
The guest list will include a diverse range of IChemE members and others who are involved in energy, environment and sustainability issues.
The medal presentation and lecture will be held on 23 November at IChemE’s London HQ, One Portland Place. The free event is open to all. Those interested in attending can register here.
