New chemical engineering books available to IChemE members

1st April 2019

Twenty new books have been added to the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) online library Knovel; including a recently updated title of the popular chemical engineering textbook by Coulson and Richardson.

Knovel is an online resource with more than 300 textbooks and technical references for IChemE members to freely access.

This year new editions on Knovel, updated by IChemE and leading publisher Elsevier, include:

  • Coulson and Richardson’s Chemical Engineering; Volume 1B - Heat and Mass Transfer – Fundamentals and Applications (7th Edition);
  • Particle Technology and Engineering – An Engineer’s Guide to Particles and Powders – Fundamentals and Computational Approaches (1st Edition);
  • Food Process Engineering and Technology.

In response to user demand, Food Process Engineering and Technology and an interactive equation on fluid dynamics and thermodynamics from the oil and gas engineering section were also added.

In 2018, IChemE members accessed the online library almost 73,000 times. The most prominent titles were Chemical Engineering Design - Principles, Practice and Economics of Plant and Process Design (2nd Edition); Coulson and Richardson’s Chemical Engineering Volume 6 – Chemical Engineering Design (4th Edition); Loss Prevention in the Process Industries; and Critical Property Data for Chemical Engineers and Chemists.

Claudia Flavell-While, IChemE Director of Policy and Publications, said:

“The books, interactive equations and technical references on Knovel equip our members with the tools they need to advance chemical engineering’s contribution worldwide for the benefit of society.

“From solving design problems and searching for chemical formulae, to improving processes and researching new topics, our members find these resources on Knovel excellent and easily accessible for their daily needs in the profession. I’m sure these new titles will prove popular too.”

What is chemical engineering?

Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.

IChemE

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) advances chemical engineering's contribution worldwide for the benefit of society. We support the development of chemical engineering professionals and provide connections to a powerful network of around 37,000 members in 100 countries.

We support our members in applying their expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges, and are the only organisation to award Chartered Chemical Engineer status and Professional Process Safety Engineer registration.
