New editions of top chemical engineering books available

4th April 2018

A range of new titles, including recently updated editions of Coulson & Richardson - the go-to chemical engineering textbook for anyone studying the discipline - have been added to IChemE’s online library, Knovel.

For the first time in 20 years, Coulson & Richardson’s seminal textbook Chemical Engineering has been updated by IChemE and leading scientific publisher, Elsevier. The first newly revised and updated books in the series, Volumes 3A and 3B, are now available free to IChemE members.

An updated edition of Volume 1 is due to be released later this year.

IChemE has also brought back some popular books to the online library, following a renewed partnership deal between Knovel and Wiley. These are:

  • Handbook of Industrial Mixing - Science and Practice
  • Distillation Troubleshooting
  • Handbook of Chemical and Environmental Engineering Calculations
  • Chemical Reactor Design; Optimization; and Scaleup (2nd Edition)
  • Multiphase Catalytic Reactors - Theory; Design; Manufacturing; and Applications

Knovel is a web-based application integrating technical information with analytical and search tools to drive innovation and deliver answers that engineers can trust. IChemE members have free access to more than 300 books and a broad suite of chemical engineering calculation tools. In 2017, members accessed the library more than 77,000 times.

IChemE’s Publications team replaces old editions of popular titles with new ones every year, as well as adding newly released titles and reviewing the most commonly accessed articles and journals, to provide the best suite of information.

IChemE’s Director of Policy and Publications, Claudia Flavell-While, said:

“Knovel’s books and interactive equations are an excellent resource for our members, and much used. The content available focuses on seminal textbooks and practitioners guides, providing our members with the tools they need to advance chemical engineering practice to the benefit of society.

“Coulson & Richardson’s Chemical Engineering textbooks are consistently among the most widely-accessed content on Knovel among our members – and I have no doubt these new editions will join that trend.

“I’m also delighted we once again have a selection of Wiley books available for our members. They were all popular titles when they were last available, and I am very pleased that we were able to bring them back.”
