IChemE celebrates its 100th birthday in 2022

The ‘IChemE100’ centenary is a once in a century opportunity to reflect upon and honour the work of chemical engineers, past and present, in their mission to deliver value to the society we serve. It is also an opportunity to highlight the role of chemical engineering in helping to meet the challenges of the future.

To commemorate the centenary, an array of celebrations will be planned for 2022 to include a series of member events, news articles, magazine features and short films. The celebrations will honour the valuable work of chemical engineers by telling stories that run from past to present to future.

As a member-led initiative, the IChemE100 centenary project is being managed by the IChemE100 Steering Committee through four working parties.

The celebrations will incorporate nine key themes, which link to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and IChemE’s own Learned Society activities:

  1. Social experience
  2. Energy
  3. Food and water
  4. Transport
  5. Environment and sustainability
  6. Materials
  7. Health
  8. Processes and safety
  9. Education and technology

Within the themes, stories will be grouped into three time periods from the Victorian era through to the cusp of the 22nd century.
