I'm an engineer... get me out of here!

Inspire future engineers through fast-paced, online chats

I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here! is a pupil-led online engagement activity that connects young people with real engineers through lively, text-based, online chats. Students can ask questions about engineering, careers and the people behind them, helping them explore what a future in STEM could look like.

As an IChemE member, you can take part from wherever you are. All you need is a web browser.

What does it involve?

Students lead the conversation, asking engineers questions and getting answers through the online platform. Questions can be about your interests, experiences and what makes you tick, as well as engineering and your career.

You don't need to be an expert in public engagement. Just be ready to share your experiences, communicate with young people and explain engineering in an accessible and engaging way.

Is there a prize?

Yes! Students vote for their favourite engineer, with the winner receiving £500 to spend on a project that engages school students or the public with engineering.

Previous uses of the prize include school activities, hands-on engineering models, videos and resources for teachers.

How do I take part?

IChemE members can sign up to take part.

The I’m an Engineer team manages the online platform and activity.

You can also find out more about the personal development available to STEM professionals taking part through the I’m a Scientist Academy.
