Overview

Is there is still a need for alarm management with new systems. The answer is yes. In fact, the need for effective alarm management may be even greater with new systems, as modern automation systems can generate a large number of alarms and alerts, which can overwhelm operators and lead to alarm fatigue.

In addition, modern automation systems often include complex interactions between multiple subsystems, which can make it difficult to identify the root cause of alarms and respond effectively to abnormal situations. Effective alarm management is therefore critical for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of modern industrial processes.

When implementing new automation systems, it's important to incorporate alarm management into the design and development process from the beginning. This involves evaluating the specific needs and requirements of the process being automated, identifying the critical alarms that need to be prioritised, and developing effective response procedures that are tailored to the specific situation.

By taking a proactive approach to alarm management with new systems, organisations can reduce the risk of operational disruptions, improve safety, and increase overall efficiency.
