Overview

We will be welcoming industry representatives to attend and speak at the career event. They will be answering students' questions about the industry they know and networking with future chemical engineers. Industry support is essential for students to better comprehend the demand from the industry.

This is aimed at students from the first year to finalists. Those who have graduated but haven't yet progressed to making an application for Chartered Engineer are encouraged to register and then join in various workshops, online networking, and meet the industry representatives and recruiters.

Speakers

Zainab Kayat, Head of LNG and Gas Department in Project, Digital and Technology Division (PD&T), PETRONAS & Vice-Chair of the IChemE Malaysia Board.

Zainab has a BSc Honours in chemical engineering from University of Manchester Institue of Science and Technology, UK. She has over 35 years' process design and engineering experience, and holds a custodian engineer post in process design and engineering and is the head of LNG and Gas Department in Project, Digital and Technology Division (PD&T), PETRONAS. Zainab is the Group Technical Authority (GTA), who provides group-wide technical governance and steer, and resolves high risk technical issues for projects in process design and operations-process units. She is currently the Result Manager, driving sustainability programs on circular carbon and hydrogen in meeting net zero carbon emission 2050.

Tharshinye Soomaran, Country Manager, IChemE

Tharshinye is an Associate Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Management. She was a pioneer in setting up the 10th government agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. She has close to 15 years of experience in strategic management and planning and a record of achievement in progressively challenging roles in both private and public sectors. Tharshinye is a Country Manager at IChemE based in Kuala Lumpur. Her personal ethos can be summed up as H20 – Humble & Hungry, Zero Exceptions.

Noradnin Hafeeza binti Haji Nawawi, Principal Engineer (Liquefaction), Petronas

Ir Noradnin Hafeeza is a registered IChemE Chartered and BEM Professional Engineer, with more than 18 years of working experience. She is the specialist in Liquefaction Technology and has undertaken various operations improvement, troubleshooting of LNG facilities, process safety review and many conceptual designs of existing LNG plant change as well as LNG and Gas related projects. She also has vast experience in plant performance monitoring and optimisation using predictive tool for anomaly detection and enhancement of gas turbine loading control monitoring.

Denny K S Ng, Professor and Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University Malaysia, Sunway University Malaysia

Professor Ir Dr Denny K S Ng is Professor and Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University Malaysia. Prior to this appointment, he was Head, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, Malaysia (December 2018 – February 2023); Head of Business Engagement and Innovation Services (January 2017 – December 2018) and Professor of Process Design and Integrated Biorefinery at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering and Founding Director of Centre of Sustainable Palm Oil Research (CESPOR), University of Nottingham, Malaysia. Prof Ng is well published over 250 papers with an h-index of 43 (Scopus). His areas of specialisation include development of net zero strategies, sustainable production and consumption strategies, optimisation of sustainable value chain of palm oil industry, energy management, resource conservation via process integration techniques, synthesis and analysis of biomass processing and integrated bio refineries.

Razmahwata bin Mohamad Razalli, Lead Engineer, IGL Services Sdn Bhd

Wata has 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, in both design and operations. He has upstream and downstream experience in process safety, measurement and allocation, process engineering, offshore technical support, and is also a training provider. He has conducted Formal Safety assessment (FSA) and HSE Case workshops, for example HAZID, HAZOP, Hazards & Effects Register (HER), BowTie, safety critical element (SCE) / performance standard (PS) reviews. Wata is currently a Director of IGL Services Sdn. Bhd. His current technical roles involve leading technical safety assessments and workshops, measurement and allocation reviews, and providing training on HAZOP, SIL and SIL LOPA methods.

Irene Lock Sow Mei, Senior Process Engineer (Water Technology), Petronas

Irene Lock Sow Mei is a multi-award-winning chemical engineer who has demonstrated strong leadership qualities, a professional work ethic, and shown that being a leukaemia survivor has not hindered her success. She has led on numerous utility and wastewater-related projects. She single-handedly innovated the steady and dynamic state simulation models for Melaka Refinery’s Utility Water Systems to evaluate adequacy against brownfield modification. Her models have been applied extensively in other projects.
