Overview

This presentation is a historical review of the origin and the early years of the life of the Springfields site where production of nuclear fuel from ore imported from the Belgian Congo was set up prior even to the formation of the UKAEA.

There is also an item about the manufacture of mustard gas for the war effort, along with describing an initial manufacturing phase, set up at Rhydwmwm , a location in the north-east of North Wales.

Speaker

Fergus Munro, now retired, first completed a maths degree before taking a position of BNFL in the PWR fuel production department before later moving on to Thorp Reprocessing and MOX contracts.
