Overview

An annual meeting to elect the new committee, update the membership on the past year and on the planned future events.

Speaker

Dr David Gardner, Chair, Sustainability SIG

David is the current Chair of the Sustainability SIG. He has spent almost 40 years in industry and innovation developing innovative and sustainable solutions in process and chemical engineering. This has included activities with DEFRA and BEIS advising on critical raw materials and supply chain risks. He has been Innovation Director of the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme, and Technical Director of the Environmental Sustainability Knowledge Transfer Network, roles in which he has supported many companies realise the potential using the principles of sustainability.

More recently, David worked on the development of the process to produce “hard” carbon for electrodes in car batteries from waste lignin at Stora Enso’s Innovation centre for Biomaterials in Stockholm. He has drawn on his experience of heating technologies, including microwave, radio-frequency, ohmic, induction, as well as electrochemical innovations to develop long-term sustainable processes across multiple sectors.
