Overview
Join us for a hybrid seminar examining the Longford gas plant incident, one of Australia's most significant process safety events.
Through this case study, our presenters will explore the causes of the incident, the key lessons learned, and the safety assessment tools and resources that can help prevent similar events in the future.
This session is designed for engineers and safety professionals seeking practical insights into process safety and risk management.

Garry Law, Professional Process Safety Engineer, Independent Consultant
Garry is an independent consultant based in Melbourne, Australia. He has 30 years of experience working mainly in the oil and gas industry for onshore and offshore operators, engineering design contractors and safety consultants across the world including Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe and New Zealand. His engineering and process safety experience covers the areas of process engineering, plant operations, project design, process and functional safety, hazard studies and risk assessments, safety critical equipment/systems and incident prevention/mitigation systems.
Over the last 25 years he has focused on process safety in design, operations and leadership with a particular interest in promoting inherently safer design, learning from past incidents and helping plant operators keep their eye on the process safety ball with robust hazard identification, risk assessment, safety systems, performance management, operational vigilance, and auditing.
Garry is an experienced facilitator of technical safety workshops including HAZID, process hazard review/analysis (PHR/PHA), HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, bowtie, ALARP/SFARP and design/constructability reviews. He is also an interviewer for IChemE PPSE certification and a senior IChemE lecturer delivering their process safety training in subjects including HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie and various courses on applying process safety management (PSM) and leadership throughout the lifecycle of process facilities.
