Increasing water scarcity, escalating sustainability expectations, and the growing complexity of industrial operations present significant challenges in achieving long-term water sustainability. Conventional approaches alone may be insufficient to address dynamic process conditions, resource constraints, and environmental demands.

This presentation explores how digital transformation, enabled by Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), empowers engineers to simulate, analyse, and optimize complex industrial water systems. Ir. Ts. Irene Lock Sow Mei, Senior Process Engineer, PETRONAS

Ir. Ts. Irene Lock Sow Mei is a Senior Process Engineer at PETRONAS, specializing in sustainable water technology, resource efficiency, and decarbonization initiatives. A First Class Chemical Engineering graduate from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, she received the Chancellor Gold Award and the IEM Best Engineering Graduate Gold Award. Irene is an ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer, and Associate Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology. A passionate advocate for women in engineering, she has been recognized with prestigious accolades including the IChemE Malaysia Young Industrialist Award, Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians Award, International Young ADIPEC Technical Professional of the Year Award, and the Powerplay Rising Star by ExxonMobil Award 2025 for her technical excellence, leadership, and contributions to sustainability.
