This talk covers the fundamentals of crystallisation and demonstrates how crystallization kinetics interacted with fluid dynamics. Roles of mixing in different crystallisation processes (such as cooling, precipitation and anti-solvent etc) are expounded. Mixing not only affects on crystal product properties such as particle size distribution and purity but also have great influence on crystallisation operations and the downstream processes. The challenges in terms of design, control and scale-up of different crystallisers are also discussed.


David (Hongyuan) Wei, Professor, Director of Tianjin University and Procter & Gamble Innovation Institute, School of Chemical Engineering, Tianjin University, China 

David (Hongyuan) Wei is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University, acting as directors of TJU-P&G and TJU-Astrazeneca Joint Laboratory. He specialises in particle science, fluid mixing, reactor design and scale-up, green chemical process development and thermal reaction hazard evaluation. He obtained his PhD in 1997 at UMIST. Before he joined Tianjin University, he worked for BHR Group at Cranfield over six years as a senior scientist, providing consultancy to the process industries regarding CFD analysis, mixing, crystallisation process design and scale-up. Professor Wei also acts as Editorial Board Members of Journal of Cogent Engineering and Journal of Fine Chemical (Chinese).
