Early-Career Moulton Medal
Recognising the next generation of research innovators
The Moulton Medals are named after Baron Moulton, who was an early shaper of the field of chemical engineering, through his role as director general of the explosives department in the UK’s War Office during World War One.
In the award of Moulton Medals, IChemE is looking to reward papers that are forward-thinking in topic areas that will be important in the future, as well as papers on more traditional themes that will appeal to readers who are not experts in the subjects covered. Medals are awarded to the author (or authors) of an innovative paper published by IChemE journal in the last year, with clearly expressed ideas and potential for significant impact.
The Early Career Moulton medal particularly recognises the outstanding contributions from new entrants in the field, and awarded to anyone within the first 15 years of their career (excluding career breaks). If the nominee is outside of this threshold, please see the Moulton Medal.
Suitable papers are shortlisted by the editors of relevant IChemE publications and are assessed by the Publication Medals Committee, who recommend a winner to the Medals and Prizes Committee for approval.
Judging criteria
The criteria the paper will be judged against are:
- readability and presentation
- originality and innovation
- technical content
- value as a catalyst for change and discussion
- broad relevance to chemical engineering.
