STEM for BRITAIN 2027 (IChemE Kumar Sustainability Prize)
Show how your research can help create a more sustainable future
The IChemE Kumar Sustainability Prize is awarded in memory of Dr Ashok Kumar, a distinguished chemical engineer, former IChemE Fellow and advocate for science and engineering in service of society. It recognises outstanding research that contributes to a more sustainable future and reflects both Dr Kumar’s legacy and IChemE’s vision of Engineering a Sustainable World.
Research addressing climate change, clean energy, sustainable manufacturing, water, food and healthcare is welcomed. Entries demonstrating collaboration across disciplines are particularly encouraged, recognising that effective solutions often emerge when engineers, scientists and other specialists work together.
Why this prize matters to IChemE
Sustainability is a cross-cutting challenge that depends on strong research, collaboration and clear communication. By supporting a prize open across all STEM for BRITAIN subject categories, IChemE can champion sustainability beyond a single discipline and highlight the contribution that chemical engineering thinking and approaches can make to major societal challenges.
STEM for BRITAIN brings early-stage researchers into Parliament. Supporting the Kumar Sustainability Prize helps IChemE make the profession’s voice heard in that setting, gives visibility to research with the potential to benefit society, and honours Dr Kumar’s commitment to science and engineering in public life.
