IChemE Journals’ impact trebles over decade

The Impact Factors of the Institution of Chemical Engineers’ (IChemE) three leading peer-reviewed Journals have all trebled between 2003 and 2013.
Impact Factors1 are a key measure to assess the performance of academic publications and are considered by researchers when submitting their work for publication.
The Impact Factor of Chemical Engineering Research and Design (ChERD) grew by 209 per cent from 2003 to 2013. ChERD achieved an Impact Factor of 2.281 in 2013, compared to 1.927 in 2012 and 0.737 in 2003.
ChERD was first introduced in 19232 and is a leading international journal for the publication of high quality, original papers in chemical engineering. Total citations for ChERD also grew by more than 16 per cent during the 12 month period.
Similar success was achieved by Process Safety and Environmental Protection (PSEP), which saw its Impact Factor more than treble from 0.597 in 2003 to 1.829 in 2013.
PSEP was launched in 1990 and is concerned with the safety of industrial processes and the protection of the environment.
Food and Bioproducts Processing (FBP) recorded the biggest ten year growth of 228 per cent and achieved the highest Impact Factor ever recorded for any IChemE Journal of 2.285 in 2013 – an annual increase of 23 per cent.
FBP was introduced in 1991 and seeks to advance chemical engineering in the fields of biotechnology, bioprocessing and food engineering.
