New IChemE medals to recognise academic achievement

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has established seven new international medals to recognise the achievements of researchers and academics in chemical engineering in fields such as particle technology, separations, thermodynamics and transport phenomena.
The Institution has been awarding medals and prizes since 1928 when the Osborne Reynolds medal (now known as the Arnold Greene medal) was presented to former IChemE president Sir Alexander Gibb.
The new medals are open to IChemE members and non-members, and include:
- Career Achievement medal
- Early Careers medal
- Research in Particle Technology medal
- Research in Separations medal
- Research in Thermodynamics and Complex Fluids medal
- Research in Transport Phenomena medal
- Research in Computer Aided Product and Process Engineering medal
The latest additions mean that IChemE can present up to 27 peer-reviewed medals and prizes each year to recognise the outstanding contribution being made by chemical engineers worldwide.
Claudia Flavell-While, IChemE director of publications, said: “IChemE now has a comprehensive roster of medals and prizes that can recognise achievement in chemical engineering across all ages and sectors including industry, education and voluntary.
“We are especially pleased to strengthen our support and commitment to the academic community, who contribute so much to advance the profession and society in general.
“Their research and innovation, and nurturing of the next generation of chemical engineers, contribute to what is a hugely successful profession that operates in many of the world’s most important industries.
“IChemE is also consulting to ‘name’ each of the new medals in honour of pioneers in their respective fields and chemical engineers that have contributed significantly to the profession. We hope to announce these later this year and publish the medals winners in April 2015.”
The deadline for applying for the medals is 31 October 2014, with full details online.
