Nominations for IChemE Medals and Prizes 2027 are now open

IChemE are pleased to announce that nominations for the 2027 Medals and Prizes programme are now open. With a newly refreshed portfolio for 2027 to ensure relevance, accessibility and inclusivity, the annual IChemE Medals and Prizes celebrate exceptional achievements and contributions from individuals and teams across industry, academia and education worldwide.
As the Institution's most prestigious awards programme, the medals recognise those whose work is advancing the profession and making a significant impact in areas including:
- Excellence and Impact Through Innovation
- Digitalisation and Automation
- Safety
- Sustainable Systems
- Learning, Development and Education
- Publications and Knowledge Sharing
- Services to the Institution (IChemE)
The awards are open to nominees at all career stages, and recognise a diverse range of achievements, from pioneering research and technological innovation to educational excellence, sustainability, leadership and outstanding professional service. Nominations are made by peers, providing an opportunity for colleagues, collaborators and industry professionals to recognise and celebrate those whose work is making a real difference. Mark Simmons, Chair of the Medals and Prizes Committee said: “We have reshaped and refocussed our portfolio this year in response to the evolving nature of our profession. These changes reflect that we welcome nominations for candidates from early career to established professionals, from a range of roles in industry and academia. We must take the time to shine a light on the individuals and teams who are working tirelessly to ensure that our profession is fully equipped to provide effective solutions to the global challenges we are facing as a society.”
Dr Rachel Bibby, Director of Member Experience & Knowledge, added: “IChemE’s Medals and Prizes have always celebrated the impact and innovation of chemical and process engineers across a range of specialisms and globally, and this year is no exception. Our medals are now arranged by seven new themes which reflect the breadth in which chemical engineers take a central role in shaping our world. I encourage everyone within the chemical engineering community to submit their nominations and show their support for the peers and colleagues involved in exceptional work across all areas of the discipline.

What is chemical engineering?
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, mathematics and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Energy, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the industry sectors and products where chemical engineering plays a central role.
