PETRONAS to partner safety conference

1st September 2014

Malaysia’s leading international petroleum corporation, PETRONAS, will partner with IChemE’s process safety symposium, Hazards Asia Pacific. This premier process safety conference will take place on 21-23 April 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

IChemE’s regional manager for South East Asia, Mohan Balasingam said that securing PETRONAS as conference partner for the third year running has been a major coup for the event.

“PETRONAS has seen the impact that Hazards AP has brought to the region and have found it an excellent platform to gain more insight into process safety,” said Balasingam.

“Hazards AP is the first of the Hazards series to be held outside of the UK since 1960 and since its inaugural event in 2011, has been recognised as the region’s premier process safety event.”

PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad president and, ceo Sazali Hamzah, says that as a responsible corporate citizen and player in the chemicals industry, PETRONAS strives to nurture, promote and sustain a thriving Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) culture.

“It is an honour for PETRONAS to once again partner with IChemE in jointly organising this symposium.

“It will bring together renowned experts from government, industry and academia to share vital insights on process safety in the chemical industry, particularly in the Asia Pacific region.”

Hazards AP has attracted a line-up of international and local safety experts to speak at the event. This includes the Chair of the Great Britain Health and Safety Executive UK, Judith Hackitt CBE. The event will focus on issues relevant to the region and is a must attend for anyone who is interested in process safety.

The programme will benefit regulators, insurers and operators in the oil, gas, chemical and power generation sectors. Topics to be covered include human factors, safety control systems, mechanical integrity, mindset and behaviours, sustainability. Other themes include safety as ‘value’, process safety management for SMEs, logistics and lessons learnt from past incidents/accidents.
