IChemE Communities of Practice now open to all members

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is encouraging members to join its two Communities of Practice on Energy and Research and Innovation.
IChemE’s Communities of Practice (CoPs) are international groups for members with an interest in a specific area who are keen to build networks, share knowledge and engage in joint problem-solving on international challenges to support members and IChemE strategy. The CoPs will act as a point of contact for government and other organisations seeking a chemical engineering view on each topic
The Energy Community of Practice (CoP) aims to develop and deliver energy projects that are relevant to the profession, the industries in which chemical and process engineers work and policymakers around the world. The CoP will provide expert, evidence-based advice on energy issues, while highlighting the role of chemical engineers in meeting the energy challenges that society faces.
Previously known as the Energy Centre, the Energy CoP has already delivered a range of outputs, including technical reports on carbon capture, utilisation and storage, input into policy consultations, and good practice guides on energy and resource efficiency.
The Research and Innovation Community of Practice (CoP) supports IChemE’s goals as set out in Strategy 2024, to support research and innovation by identifying and promoting key areas of research and innovation in chemical engineering. Research and innovation also form an integral part of IChemE’s technical strategy, Chemical Engineering Matters, which sets out the importance of chemical engineering research in addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Research and Innovation CoP brings together and replaces the UK Research Committee, the Australian Research Committee, and the Early Career Researchers Forum. It will continue the work of the previous committees to champion chemical engineering research through input into policy work and via materials that demonstrate the importance of chemical engineering research to everyday life.
CoPs are open to all IChemE members and as the groups are internationally-reaching, members from all locations are encouraged to participate. Joining will allow members to stay informed of the CoP’s activities, volunteer to participate in projects the CoP is undertaking and contribute to policy consultations the CoP is engaging in.
