Volunteers and STEM Ambassadors
Safeguarding for volunteers
Anyone who works with or volunteers with children* has a duty of care to keep them safe. Whilst there are staff in schools who have this expertise, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and we would like all volunteers working with children to read our 'Safeguarding and protection' guide.
Before delivering any activities with children, volunteers in the UK must register with STEM Ambassadors, apply for and receive the required enhanced DBS check (including a check of the children’s barred list) through STEM Ambassadors, and complete the required induction and safeguarding training. When volunteering outside the UK, volunteers should follow the safeguarding procedures of the school or organiser, as well as any equivalent local safeguarding requirements.
If you have any questions, please contact the team at discoverchemeng@icheme.org.
