ACTS update

ACTS update

15th August 2025

New combined accreditation form

To simplify the accreditation process, IChemE has introduced a single, combined form that replaces the separate company self-assessment and assessor visit report. This change is intended to reduce duplication and improve efficiency during accreditation reviews.

Updated scheme manual template

A new training manual template is now available to help companies develop or revise their ACTS manuals. This resource provides a clear structure and guidance, supporting consistent documentation and easier preparation for scheme accreditation.

ACTS portal launching soon

A new ACTS portal is scheduled for launch in late 2025, offering a more user-friendly way to register trainees and mentors and manage your scheme. Until then, companies should continue using the existing registration form. Please note that ACTS completion forms are no longer required to be issued to trainees.

ACTS in The Chemical Engineer

The latest issue of The Chemical Engineer includes a feature on the value of volunteering as an ACTS assessor or mentor. It highlights the benefits for professionals involved in developing early-career engineers and the broader impact on the profession.

Focus on the streamlined Chartership pathway

The application process for Chartered Member (MIChemE) has been streamlined. The Individual Case Procedure (ICP) is now called Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding (UKU) to align with Engineering Council terminology. UKU is submitted at the same time as the Competency & Commitment Report (C&C).

This new approach removes multiple application stages and simplifies the route to Chartered Membership, particularly for ACTS trainees, whose Initial Professional Development (IPD) is confirmed through the accreditation process. In principle, ACTS candidates should not be unsuccessful at the Professional Review due to IPD shortfalls alone.

These ongoing improvements reflect IChemE’s commitment to supporting accredited companies in developing and retaining talented future Chartered Engineers. Access ACTS resources and guidance.
