The IChemE London and South East Coast Young Members Group invites North London Collegiate School students to a career exploration event focusing on chemical engineering.

Gain valuable insights from two accomplished professionals representing diverse career paths in industry and academia. Learn first hand about their journeys and discover the exciting possibilities within the field of chemical engineering.

This session will also equip you with crucial knowledge for making informed decisions about your future academic pursuits. Gain expert advice on selecting the right university degree to launch your successful career in chemical engineering and STEM.

This event is part of the British Science Week series at North London Collegiate School and is open to the students at North London Collegiate School.

Speakers

Maria Kalli 

Maria is a bioprocessing product specialist at MFX (formerly known as MicrofluidX), a biotech start-up working towards automating cell and gene therapy processes to accelerate research and bring more affordable medicines to patients. She has previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry with Mace/GSK and in the oil and gas industry with ExxonMobil.

She completed her studies in MEng chemical engineering from UCL with First Class Honours and graduated with a PhD in the fireds of microfluidics and surfactants. In 2020, she received an award for the most successful PhD student in UCL. She was a former President at the UCL Cheers society and a PhD Rep for equality Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) in UCL. As a core member of IChemE's Young Members Forum (YMF) for the past three years, Maria acted as a Chair in London and South East Coast (LSEC) in 2023. She is actively involved in STEM outreach through career talks at schools and she is on a mission to inspire the next generation of chemical engineers.

Sakiru Badmos

Sakiru is a dynamic educator with a strong background in Science and Engineering. Holding a PhD in Chemical Engineering from University College London (UCL), Sakiru is passionate about teaching engineering and sciences with special interest in inspiring the next generation. Sakiru has several years of experience teaching across all levels of education both in the UK and overseas. He is also a STEM ambassador in the UK.
