Overview

This is the first IChemE networking event in Dunedin in several years. Join us for a tour of the Tahuna Wastewater Treatment Plant and take the opportunity to network with IChemE members and other local engineering professionals.

The plant serves approximately 100,000 people, with an average daily flow of about 30,000 m³/day. Wastewater is treated using a High Rate Activated Sludge (HRAS) process, followed by (partially) nitrifying Biological Trickling Filters and ultraviolet disinfection. Around 20 tonnes of sludge per day (at 30% dry solids) is produced through thickening and dewatering, with most of it incinerated in New Zealand’s only municipal sludge incinerator.
