Overview

Join us for this joint PEIs event, organised by the regional committees of the IMechE, ICE, IET, IChemE, IStructE and SMEA, in which four local experts will discuss decarbonisation and what it will mean for the local region.

The panel will explore how achieving net zero will dramatically affect our way of life and debate issues such as:

  • How far can we reduce emissions locally?
  • How do we avoid emissions reduction here leading to larger CO2 footprints globally?
  • How is our industrial and academic base working to solve the problems?
  • How do we balance Carbon, Cost, Capability, Culpability and Community?

This event is free to attend and is open to members of all the joint PEIs, and non-members too.

Attending this event supports your Continuous Professional Development. If you are an IMechE member, this can be recorded in the Career Developer section of your online account.

Pre-registration is required for this event via the booking link.

Speakers

The event will be chaired by Richard Caborn, a former MP, Government Minister and lifelong supporter of the Sheffield region and the engineering sector in general. In addition to his career in front bench politics, Richard has experience in engineering, industrial policy and the low carbon sector.

Ed Heath-Whyte - Head of Environment and Sustainability at the Liberty Steel Group

Professor Lenny Koh - Director of the Centre for Energy, Environment and Sustainability and the Advanced Resource Efficiency Centre at the University of Sheffield
