Tina Phiri Chanda
Tina is an accomplished lecturer, researcher, and metallurgical engineer with over 15 years of combined experience in academia, research, and industry. Tina’s research interests is at the intersection of extractive metallurgy, mining waste recycling, and the circular economy.
To date, Tina has authored and co-authored 17 research papers published in peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings. She is also a mentor and coach who is passionate about girls and women in STEM fields.
Tina holds a PhD in metallurgical engineering from Murdoch University in Australia, Master’s degree in European minerals engineering from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, and a Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from the Copperbelt University in Zambia.
Her dedication to excellence and creativity has earned her both local and international recognition in the academic and engineering communities, earning accolades such as the Research Excellent Award by the Joint Chemical Engineering Committee of Western Australia, West Coast Australia Award by the Climate Launch Pad, and the prestigious Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship.
Tina continues to be a driving force in developing innovative technologies in extractive metallurgy, transforming mining waste into valuable resources and shaping sustainable mining practices through education, research, and policy engagement.
