  • Position Committee member

Neil Renault is the Scale-up Facilities manager at FlexBIO, a bioprocessing scale-up facility hosted by Heriot-watt university (Edinburgh) and managed by Scotland’s Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC). He ensures operational delivery of facility provision, resourcing, timing and pipeline project targets are all met and aligned with the IBioIC's remit to 'accelerate commercialisation' of industrial biotechnology industry and academia projects.

Prior to this Neil worked in industry for several years within R&D and immunodiagnostics, within a GMP facility as a lab manager and senior scientist. He has a PhD in multiplexed antibody/antigen microarray process development from the University of Nottingham and his undergraduate was in Molecular & Cellular Biology at the University of Kent, where he is from. It was during his degree that he first worked in bioprocessing through an industrial placement year at Pfizer (Sandwich) in downstream processing. Neil also has a passion for upskilling students through placements, teaching, events and hosting practical training courses, as well as communicating the benefits of biotechnology to society, on the path to a greener, fossil-free, biobased future.
