Stora Enso will build a €9m pilot facility to produce bio-based plastics as a barrier in transparent packaging, with construction starting in the second half of 2020, with operations beginning in Q1 2021. The plant at the company's Lengerbrugge mill in Belgium, one of the largest paper mills in Europe, producing 540,000 of recycled newsprint and magazine papers annually, will convert plant-based sugars to make PEF, a bio-based plastic, mainly targeting the food and beverage industry.
