Overview

CCS will be a vital technology for the UK and other countries, not least for decarbonising heavy process industries such as steel, cement and chemicals. Projects are under development across the world: the technology is new and everyone involved is in the 'learning by doing stage'. Several CCS projects have been built including Sleipner in Norway, operational for 27 years, at the Boundary Dam power plant in Canada using Shell’s Cansolv process, operational over eight years and Gorgon in Australia operated by Chevron. Clearly, over this time, a lot has been learned about things that have gone well and things that have not gone so well. We ignore the latter at our peril.

Our understanding of the thermodynamic and chemical behaviour of impure carbon dioxide has increased significantly over the past five years or so. In this webinar, Matt Healey from Pace CCS will take us through some of the lessons learned at the Gorgon project, how they have affected the project and what they might do differently with the benefit of hindsight.

Matthew is the Managing Director of Pace CCS in London, Houston and Kuala Lumpur. Pace CCS are the world leaders in the design of CCS infrastructure, with experience with more than 80 projects worldwide. Matt is also a member of ISO TC265, responsible for development of standards related to carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and geological storage.
