The climate has changed. Businesses are increasingly exposed to risks from direct impacts to their operations and to wider, systemic risks to their staff, operations and supply chains. This webinar will explore practical measures that organisations can adopt to build climate resilience.

Whether this comes through strategic decision making, such as locating or re-locating facilities out of harm’s way, or embedding climate resilience as a factor in day-to-day design and operation.

Knowing what can be done to reduce the vulnerability of people, processes and plant and knowing when key future resilience decisions need to be made is essential to maintaining safe and profitable operations.

The Environment Agency has compiled many examples of organisations who are actively improving now – these examples will be shared in this webinar to support all operators to build climate resilience, which in turn improves safety, environmental protection and delivery of business goals and objectives

Mike Nicholas, Senior Advisor, Environment Agency

Mike is a climate change adaptation and process safety expert at the Environment Agency (EA). He supports embedding of adaptation into management systems and the development of expectations and guidance for climate and environmental risk management, targeted at businesses in scope of EA’s regulatory activities.

Samathi Korala, Graduate Trainee Chemical Engineer, Environment Agency

Samathi is a graduate trainee chemical engineer at the Environment Agency on the Process Engineering Graduate Scheme - Future Permissions During her time in the COMAH team, she supported work on climate change adaptation and Natech risk management, including the development of guidance and practical resilience measures for hazardous installations. She is passionate about building resilience to future climate risks while protecting people and the environment.

Tim Fox, Chair of the Climate Change Adaptation Working Group, IMechE

Tim is an internationally recognised expert in climate change adaptation and mitigation with specialist knowledge of clean energy, sustainable cooling, and process engineering based industries. He is an independent consultant and a Fellow of the IMechE, where he is Chair of the Climate Change Adaptation Working Group and a past Chair of the Process Industries Division.

Tim is a member of the Adaptation to Climate Change Group of BSI Committee SES/001/07, as well as the ISO Task Group TC207/SC7/TG2 Adaptation to Climate Change, and UK Infrastructure Operators Adaptation Forum. He has been lead author of numerous peer-reviewed papers, research reports, policy papers and thought leadership reports, most recently including “Adapting industry to withstand rising temperatures and future heatwaves” for the IMechE and the Centre of Sustainable Cooling’s “The Hot Reality: Living in a +50C World” report.
