Overview

Join a special Hydrogen Day webinar as we explore the vital role of chemical engineering in the evolving hydrogen landscape. As global efforts toward a net-zero future accelerate, this session will examine the broader opportunities and challenges of integrating hydrogen into our energy systems. Our expert panel will share insights on the innovation and safety standards necessary for a sustainable energy transition. Whether you are an academic, industry professional, or policy enthusiast, join us to discover how the engineering community is shaping the future of clean energy.

Speaker

Anushka Devaser, Technical Director, WSP

As the Industrial Decarbonisation Lead within WSP's Sustainability Advisory practice in the UK, Anushka drives strategic technical guidance and commercial success across our most complex energy transition mandates. Her primary focus is on engineering astute, commercially-led solutions that enable heavy industry and infrastructure clients to achieve ambitious Net Zero targets.

Rachael Rothman, Professor of Sustainable Chemical Engineering, University of Sheffield

Rachael is Professor of Sustainable Chemical Engineering, Lead of the UK Life Cycle Assessment Network, Director of the South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre, Co-Director of the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures, Co-Director of the UK Hub for Research Challenges in Hydrogen and Alternative Liquid Fuels (UK-HyRES), and Academic Lead for Sustainability at the University of Sheffield.
Rachael is a thought leader in sustainability, regularly engaging with policy makers, the media and the public. Her research expertise lies in development and analysis of sustainable processes and systems, including development of methodology for sustainability assessment. She has a background in large scale hydrogen production and carbon dioxide utilisation and has more recently worked on the sustainability of Foundation Industry processes, plastics and packaging. Rachael leads projects that take an interdisciplinary, whole systems approach to developing routes to net zero and zero waste, combining insights from engineering, psychology, linguistics, sociology and the physical and biological sciences.

Asima Anjum, Associate Director Hydrogen and CCUS, Jacobs

Asima Anjum is Associate Director for Hydrogen and CCUS at Jacobs and a Chartered Chemical Engineer with over 15 years of experience in hydrogen process technology and industrial decarbonisation. She specialises in the development and integration of solutions across the hydrogen value chain, including low-carbon hydrogen production, hydrogen derivatives, gas processing and CCUS. Asima has led multidisciplinary studies spanning technology selection, process design, techno-economic assessment, infrastructure planning and brownfield integration across hydrogen production, storage, transport and end-use applications. Her work combines process engineering expertise with systems-level analysis to develop practical strategies addressing technology performance, safety, operability, scalability and infrastructure dependencies.
