Overview

This webinar is based on a Master’s-level study assessing green and gold hydrogen production pathways through the design of two case study plants based in South Australia. These plants serve as the basis for comparing technical design considerations alongside wider environmental, economic, and social impacts. By analysing differences in outcomes across the pathways, the session highlights key challenges and opportunities for hydrogen in driving the global energy transition.

Speakers

Muhammed Ali Fareed, Associate Technical Professional, KBR

Ali is a graduate process engineer at KBR and a recent chemical engineering graduate from the University of Surrey. During his studies, he contributed to sustainability-focused research, including the Gold and Green Hydrogen Project, where he assessed the implications of different hydrogen production pathways.

Lucia Sanz Macareno, Airbus

Lucia has recently graduated in mechanical engineering with a completed placement year at Ardingly College MEng. She worked on this hydrogen project as she is very interested in working in sustainable and renewable projects.

Ben Tipping, Assistant Engineer, BAM UK & Ireland

Ben completed an integrated master’s in civil engineering at the University of Surrey, supported by a scholarship from the Institution of Civil Engineers. His placement with BAM UK & Ireland saw him play a key role in the London Victoria station upgrade, earning the university’s Professional Training Year Award in 2024. After graduating with First Class Honours and receiving the Wells Medal for outstanding academic achievement, Ben is now rejoining BAM as an assistant graduate engineer.

Muhammad Nuqman Bin Mahmood, University of Surrey

Muhammad is a recent graduate from the University of Surrey with a strong interest in semiconductor and sustainability. He was interested in the project as hydrogen is widely used in the semiconductor industry.

Subomi Abiodun, Graduate, University of Surrey

Subomi is a recent chemical engineering graduate from the University of Surrey. With a solid foundation in pharmaceutical manufacturing after completing a placement year at Pfizer UK and working on the university’s Pharmaceutical Pilot Plant as a plant manager, Subomi is looking to build on her professional experience in pharma while working towards chartership with IChemE.
