Overview

This talk gives a tour through the industrial process analytics (IPA) analytical workflow of data analysis in process industries. The presentation contemplates several discussion points, where current challenges are addressed in more detail and a broader perspective is provided of the landscape of solutions available to address them. Topics include the intermingling of analysis goals, data structure, prior knowledge and analytical methods. Some industrial examples are shared regarding process monitoring, fault diagnosis, process analysis and prediction activities.

Marco S Reis, Associate Professor, University of Coimbra

Marco is an Associate Professor of Aggregation in Chemical Engineering, University of Coimbra. He has a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Coimbra and a diploma in chemical engineering, University of Coimbra. He has served as the president of the european network for business and industrial statistics (ENBIS) and of Associação Para o Desenvolvimento da Engenharia Química (PRODEQ). He lectures on process systems engineering, quality technology and management, management and entrepreneurship, and process improvement.

His research interests are centred on the field of process systems engineering (system identification, fault detection and diagnosis, control, and optimisation), statistical process control of complex large-scale processes, data-driven multiscale modeling, chemometrics, design of experiments, and industrial statistics. Other areas of interest include multivariate image analysis, systems biology, and process improvement through initiatives such as Six Sigma and lean manufacturing. He has published >60 articles in international journals or book series, four book chapters, and two books, and authored or co-authored 100+ presentations in international congresses.
